More About Us

At Drift Away Rentals, we live for life on the water—and we’re here to help you do the same.

Founded by family and Charleston locals Melissa, Jason, and Chris, Drift Away Rentals was born out of a shared love for salt air, fishing lines, and the freedom that comes with a boat and an open horizon. With over 25 years spent exploring the Lowcountry and beyond, we’ve built this company around what we know best: getting outside, staying connected to the water, and making time for the things that matter most.

You’ll usually find us offshore chasing grouper and snapper, diving reefs, cruising tidal creeks, or anchored at a sandbar with friends. We spend our days fishing, freediving, spearfishing, and exploring everything in the Charleston Harbor and the Florida Keys. These aren’t just hobbies—they’re part of our lifestyle. Drift Away Rentals is an extension of who we are: a team that believes the best moments happen off land, under open skies, and in good company.

We’re also passionate about protecting the marine environments we call home. Drift Away supports reef restoration and ocean conservation efforts throughout the region. From contributing to reef-saving programs to spreading awareness about sustainable boating and diving practices, we believe in doing our part to ensure the waters we enjoy today are still thriving for the next generation.

When we’re not on the water, Jason and Chris are hard at work with Salty Gears Marine, our sister business specializing in full-service marine care. Their decades of experience keep boats and vehicles running strong, whether it’s routine maintenance, custom rigging, or complete system overhauls.

Drift Away Rentals is more than a business—it’s a reflection of our values: freedom, curiosity, respect for nature, and a deep appreciation for the ocean lifestyle. We’re proud to share a piece of that with every person who crosses our path.

Meet the Crew

  • Owner, Operator, and Captain

I’ve been getting my toes wet in Charleston’s local waters for over 20 years. As a seasoned marine and automotive technician, I’ve built my career around keeping boats running smoothly and vehicles road-ready—with a deep respect for the craft and the people who rely on it.

Family is at the core of everything I do. I’m a proud husband, father, and grandfather, and I bring that same care and attention to my work. Whether I’m helping someone get back on the water or out of the shop, I treat every job like it’s for my own crew.

I’m passionate about fishing, spearfishing, marine life, and Jiu-jitsu, and I enjoy life with a laid-back attitude and a good sense of humor. I’m also a proud dog lover and believer in keeping things real, honest, and fun.

With decades of hands-on experience and a love for Charleston’s waterways, I’m here to make sure your boat runs right—so you can focus on making memories that matter.

  • Co-Owner, Operator, and Captain

Born and raised in Charleston, SC, I’ve spent my life on the water and built my career as a licensed electrical project manager. While still operating my small side company RipCurrent Electric LLC, I decided to return to my roots—working with boats and combining my electrical expertise with my passion for the marine lifestyle. As a USCG-certified captain, I take pride in sharing the beauty of the Lowcountry with both locals and visitors—whether I’m navigating the creeks or helping families create unforgettable memories on the water.

I’m also the co-owner and operator of Salty Gears Marine & Automotive, where we specialize in high-quality marine and vehicle service.

I love spending time on the water here in Charleston—it’s home, and there’s nothing like cruising these local creeks or chasing redfish in the marsh. But there’s something about the Florida Keys that keeps calling me back. Whether it’s fishing, spearfishing, freediving, or scuba diving, the clear water and reef life down there feel like a second home. It’s where I go to recharge, explore, and dive a little deeper—literally.

Whether I’m running a charter, installing marine electronics, turning wrenches, or helping launch your next adventure—you can count on me to show up, work hard, and do it right.
